World Travel Guide Asia Vietnam General Information Vietnam Flag Vietnam Flag Picture choosen by: Mrs.Rosy Black Vietnam Overview Vietnam officially the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, lies in southeast of Asia. It is bordered by China to the north, Laos to the northwest, Cambodia to the southwest, and the South China Sea to the east. The location made it the easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula. And its large population of over 86 million people made it the 13th most populous country in the world.

It gained independence and got away from China in AD 938, but countries around never completely gave up this land. In the mid-19th, Vietnam was colonized by the French, and eventually divided into two parts due to the resistant effort. In 1975, the victory of North Vietnam ended the fighting between the two sides.

Nowadays, economy development becomes its priority. With the most vivid colours, the bold landscapes, the dramatic coastline, the compelling history, and the divine tastes, Vietnam opens its door welcoming all foreigners who come as guests not conquerors. Prepare yourself just for one of the most enriching, enlivening and exotic countries on earth.
