Health Care
NZ does not have a government funded system of public hospitals. But all travellers are covered for medical care in terms of accidents that occur in NZ, such as motor vehicle accidents, adventure activity accidents.

The 24-hour, free-call (0800 611 116) offers health advice throughout NZ.

Stay Safe
Generally, NZ is very safe by most international city standards, though theft, especially for cars, is a major problem around NZ, and travellers are usually their favorite targets. Avoid leaving valuables in cars, no matter where it's parked. Pack them out of sight when they simply must be left behind. And do carry your passport with you, just in case.

Be cautious of the ever-changing climate, especially in high-altitude areas.

Thankfully, sharks that hang out in NZ waters are well fed by plenty of marine life and rarely attack on humans. However, the rips and undertows are quite dangerous as they can quickly drag swimmers out to sea. Take notice of local warnings when swimming, surfing or diving.
