Greenland Overview
Greenland, located at the far northeast of North America, is the world's largest non-continental island. It is largely within the Arctic Circle, hence the seas surrounding it is either permanently frozen or chilled by the cold currents.Despite the harsh terrain and weather, Greenland provides beautiful sights. The arctic nights in the winter concoct a wondrous continuous twilight and, in the far north of the country, complete darkness, coupled with the spectacular Northern Lights.
Although it's still part of the Kingdom of Denmark, it was granted self-government effective in 1979, more recently it voted for more autonomy, in effect making it a separate country with formal ties to Denmark.
