Estonia Getting Around
By AirThe biggest international airport in Estonia is located in Tallinn and provides the direct fly to the most major cities in Europe.
By water
There is a popular way to travel to Estonia that is by sea. Unquestionably, as Tallinn is the closest capital to Helsinki and Stockholm and travelling by boat enables you to combine the fun of cruising with efficient transportation.
The main ferry operators are Tallink, Viking Line and Eckerö Line:
Helsinki port in Finland is 80km from Tallinn and it takes less than 2 hours on a ferry. During the summer season (from May to September) boats sail every few hours.
Stockholm ports in Sweden are 380km from Tallinn and boat travels once a day in both directions.
Travel time is depended on different ferriesm, usually if the larger ship should cost longer travel time. Cruise ships also include children playgrounds, beauty services, night-clubs and tax-free shops to ensure you have a fun trip, whether travelling with kids or enjoying a weekend getaway.
To catch a ferry you will need a passport or ID-cards (for European citizens).
Transportation to/from the Port of Tallinn:
The Tallinn port is only 10 minutes walk from the Old Town and city centre.

Tram: The closest stop to Tallinn port is “Linnahall” and trams 1 and 2 will get you there. Tram No. 1 travels from Kadriorg, tram NO. 2 starts from Lasnamäe and drives past the international bus station.
Bus no 3 will take you closest to the port, stop “Linnahall” - it travels through the Viru center, at Hobujaama stop
Taking a taxi: taxi ranks are located right in front of the terminals B and D.
by Rail
There is only one route to or from Estonia at present. This is a daily overnight train to/from Moscow run by GoRail (www.gorail.ee) that takes 16 hours

by Road
There are direct routes along the Baltic coast into Latvia, Lithuania and Kaliningrad, and also east into the Russian Federation. The main border crossings with Latvia are at Valka, Ainazi and Vastse-Roose. The main border crossing with Russia is at Narva.
Getting around
The major airport in Estonia is Tallinn's Lennart Meri Airport, which can direct connect to most major European cities. Estonian Air is the national carrier linking Tallinn with over 20 European and Russian destinations. Other airlines servicing Estonia include Air Baltic, Finnair, Lufthansa, Easyjet, SAS, LOT and CSA.
The convenience location of Lennart Meri Airport which just 10 minutes driving distance from southeast of Tallinn, there are also got the bus service provided that will cost you about 20 minutes on the way, departing the airport every 15 minutes.
There are also got the smaller airports at Parnu, Tartu and on Saaremaa Island with daily domestic flight services to Tallinn.
The ways to connect Tallinn with Helsinki (Finland) and Stockholm (Sweden) are Ships and ferries on a daily basis in summer, with less frequent services in winter.
Hydrofoils from Helsinki take only about 90 minutes, while the larger car-carrying ferries can take up to 3 hours.
There are also regular ferry services from Tallinn to St Petersburg, Russia and Rostock in Germany. Many of the European cruiselines include Saaremaa Island and Tallinn in their cruise itineraries.
International train services are limited to nightly services to Moscow from Tallinn, and a line that links northern Latvia to Valga in the southeast of Estonia.
There are also provided the domestic services between Tallinn, Narva, Viljandi, Parnu, Tartu and Valga. This kind of service got a disadvantage that is the speed is quite slowly, but is cheap and reasonably comfortable.
There are many people prefer to chose the coach services, because of the services are significantly more extensive and more regular than the train services.
Eurolines offer daily bus services to Moscow, Kaliningrad, and St Petersburg (Russia), Kiev (Ukraine), Warsaw (Poland), Riga (Latvia) and Berlin (Germany). Avoid coach services that transits through Russia unless you are visiting there, due to Russian transit visas are quite costly.
Vehicles drive on the right side of the road, and the roads are not as congested as they are in other European countries. Car rental is relatively cheap and readily available at the airport and in the major cities through Avis, Budget, Hertz, National, Europcar and other local companies.
If you are planning rent a car to from anther country then you have to check with the rental company weather the company allows travel to Estonia before you rent the car. Accident insurance is compulsory and can be purchased at border crossings. Many locals have unpredictable, sub-standard driving skills and habits so always drive cautiously and defensively.
Taxis is one of the good choice when you want to travel in this country but can be very expensive. Always choose the official marked taxis with a visible meter or agree on a fare before entering the taxi.
