One of the few things you can do in the evening is to attend performances of the Naxi Orchestra, located inside a beautiful building in Old Town. All members (26 at last count) are Naxi and play a type of Taoist temple music that has been lost elsewhere in China.
I informed them they were wrong, there is much more about this mysterious place await them to discover. The main Old Town is a bit commercial and noisy though, the bar streets offer you another experience of night life. Gals in Naxi costumes are singing local ditty along the riverside. If you happen to be in the mood can also sing with their rhythm. However, inside the bars are quite hot and noisy, You will definitely witness the most strange mixture scene that you will never see elsewhere: The guitarist is playing alone in a corner while people can dance in the middle with the hip-pop music played by the DJ in another corner...
Also, the Naxi Ancient Music concert is held every night after 8PM. It is said there are only a few can understand what it all about. As music is universal, you may try your luck whether you can have the connection with the ancient composer.
Besides all thoes, walk a little further into the lane, you may pass by some European artists performing by the riverside or just enjoy a cup of dried-flower tea listening to the breeze whispering...
