We took a school trip in July of 2007. It was hot outside but cool inside. I requested a non-smoking room but still with smell of smoking, maybe because in China it is common to smoke everywhere all the time. The staff was pretty good and their English was too. I had the room service and it was good. We (me and two friends) arranged a trip to the Great wall after our school assignment via private car and it was GREAT!! If you can afford it it was only 80.00 US for a whole day for 3 of us including water, air conditioned private car and help at the ticket counter. The trip was about 90 minutes each way and we stopped at the Olympic Village for a look on the way back. The wall was fantastic and the people friendly! Do wear sunscreen and take water! The locals at the hotel aim to please but make sure you understand each other and your requests and needs is clearly delivered. If you need anything while your stay don't be afraid to ask. The staff really tries to help even if they don't quite understand. I did not drink the water even though there was a note in the room that said it was pure. I did however brush, rinse and shave with it and never got sick. Take care and be safe!
