This Palace was built by and for the last Rajah, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut as a splendid weekend retreat. Construction began in 1947 and every day the Rajah could be seen waist deep in mud, working alongside the local craftsmen creating this amazing miniature Asian Versailles. The eruption of Mount Agung, Bali is most sacred mountain in 1963 almost entirely devastated the water gardens and the Rajah and his family took refuge in Ubud.
